Shelter Children Rehabilitation Centre had always dreamed that one day they would be able to have a library for the children. Space had been designated toward a 'future library,' but this dream
The books are finally here!
had not become a reality for them until now! Books were ordered from the Jomo Kenyatta and East African Publishers and included school books, exam review books, storybooks and young adult fiction. The library now has approximately 200 books and hopefully over the next several years this project will grow. Many of the books that occupy the shelves are prepartory school books and exam books. In Kenya there are two very important exams: one after class 8 that determines the high school children attend and another after high school to determine the college or university. So the books purchased will be of great assistance for the children who have never had the luxury of prepartory material.

While I was at Shelter and working to complete the projects, the children did not know what project was being worked on. So when the books finally came, it was a surprise for them to receive so many new beautiful books!

Considering donating to the library?
Books can be donated by mailing them to the address below. Please keep in mind that soft cover books would be more appropriate due to the cost of shipping. New and gently used books are welcome.
* It is of the utmost importance that any parcel be marked as a DONATION and that you DECLARE 0 $ VALUE for its contents as the orphanage has to pay a customs tax based on its value. They have no money to do this with! Their address:
