The farm/garden at Shelter assists in subsidizing the administrative costs of the orphanage. Additionally, the garden provides food for the children.
The farm project consisted of purchasing fertilizers, a variety of different vegetable seeds, fungicides, herbicides and pesticides. It is important to recognize that at this point in time organic farming is not a viable option given the difficulty in achieving productive yields.
Irrigation to the farm was improved by adding a 100 meter trench. The plastic piping was purchased and laid down. The additional irrigation will aid by improving the amount of land that can be farmed and ultimately improve their yield.
